Promotion Day!

I had a Great morning attending my granddaughters eighth grade promotion. She looked gorgeous as usual and was displaying her million dollar smile as always. We are all so proud of her accomplishments thus far. Unfortunately, I have a couple of annoying things that took place that I feel the need to get off my chest. The promotion took place in the gymnasium so it was tight seating to say the least. I was fine with the woman that brought her stadium seat with the pouch on the back that forced me to sit sideways, and I tolerated the two very young children that kicked me in the head and arm during the entire promotion. But, the family of these little blessings had party favors that they continued to blow in my ears as they screamed non stop to a child that I'm almost positive couldn't hear them. Along with the screaming one of the women managed to kick the flowers I brought for my granddaughter each time she blew her horn. I decided to take action by asking the woman in the s...
Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father's_Day This Sunday is Father's Day - I have one granddaughter that doesn't have a relationship with her father. My husband has always been Grandfather/Father for her. Also, I have a son that doesn't fit my definition of a father. He's rarely with my granddaughter so isn't providing for her emotionally, and he definitely doesn't provide for her financially. This isn't the life I wanted for my grandchildren, and if you're a grandparent you know how much it breaks your heart. I am happy to say that my husband and oldest son has taken their role of being a father serious - thank God for that, and Happy Father's Day to them! I came across this  -  thought I'd share. A man isn’t: Someone who runs from his responsibilities A person who makes excuses A person who strik...

It's Only 99 Cents!

I was at the 99 Cent store the other day, which by the way is genius. Does anyone every walk out with one item -I spent almost $50. There's things you would never buy and probably don't need, but who cares... it's only 99 cents. Which brings me to something I found. They had giant letters and number that are made of wood. How could I pass these up! I've been working on trying to brighten up my brown room. The walls are venetian plaster so I don't want to paint over them, and for now it's just the playroom/nap room for my granddaughter. Here's what I did. The color is off since I shot this outside, but I decoupaged them with scrap booking paper that had orange, hot pink, yellow and lime green in stripes, flowers and polka dots. After they dried I sprayed them with clear gloss. It was an easy and fun project that took 30 minuets or so to do. I was thinking it would be cool to buy the numbers for my address and spray paint them. I'm just not s...

Natural and Loving it!

I started following Black Woman Natural Hairstyles www.blackwomennaturalhairstyles.com  I love all the beautiful women and their natural hairstyles that she shows. I don't remember seeing natural hairstyles other than Afros when I was growing up. Although I didn't relax my hair until I was in my 20's I continued the process through my 40's. Finally in my 50's I decided no more harsh chemicals on my hair - so natural it is. You're probably saying who cares about now, but I wish I had better role models of black women that embraced their natural hair when I was growing up so I didn't buy into how I thought my hair should be as a young adult. Since I was a child several women, including my family members would say they want to go natural but can’t. It's because most of us had heard since we were young that our hair is way too kinky or too nappy.   As a small child I would watch my Aunt Lurlean heat up the hot comb on the stove and straighte...

Miss Bossy Pants

Miss Bossy Pants and Grandma/Nanny I was at the park with my 2 year old granddaughter when a little girl around 3 years of age came over basically to let us know that she was the boss of the playground. She was telling Makenna where she could go and what she could do. Finally I said in a polite voice, "She's only 2." She yelled, " SO! My brother's only 2 and he can do what I say."  I  decided that was my red flag - time to remove ourselves from the situation. So I packed up the stroller and went over to the swings. But, before I got a push in, along comes Miss Bossy Pants telling Makenna to pump as she screamed instructions like a drill sargent. Up and down, up and down she chanted while getting on the swing  next to us. Thankfully two other women walked over for their kids to swing - they became blessed with her instructions. Soon she was bored with each of us since we all ignored her comments and demands - except for Makenna who was soaking it all in. ...
