Today is National Farmer's Day International Moment Of Frustration Scream Day & National Gumbo Day http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/shrimp-gumbo-recipe/index.html?rsrc=sea I think I'm going to make Shrimp Gumbo in honor of National Gumbo Day. I guess I should of bought the shrimp from the little old man that knocked at my door yesterday trying to sell meat off of his truck. He said, "I have steaks, ribs, and burgers."  I said, " You picked the wrong doorbell to ring, I don't eat beef." So he had me follow him across the street to his truck - he pulled out a box of frozen shrimp. I was somewhat tempted until he told me it was $58, and me being neurotic about germs kind of killed the deal for me too. Today thank all the farmers that you know for all of their hard work. Make some Gumbo and scream! Happy Friday!

Respite Care

Yesterday my husband checked my father in law into a respite care facility. When my husband shared with me that his father didn't want to stay and asked to leave the facility, it broke my heart. Why does he have to be there - why can't he just die at home? I felt the same with my mom - all she wanted was to go home sit on her couch and die watching the food network channel. There was a time in life when people were allowed to die like God intended. I don't take medication now and know that I don't want to be pumped up with medication to be kept alive. I also know for a fact that I don't want to be in a unfamiliar place with people I don't know caring for me. I told my husband if my family doesn't want to be around when I'm at that point in my life I get it, but let me be where I want to be to die. The most wonderful of all things in life, I believe, is the discovery of another human being with whom one's relationship has a glowing dept...

Happy 4th of July

Here's some fun 4th of July recipe's that I came across... we're making the stuffed turkey burgers. Fruit-Tart Flag Directions Fill premade miniature tart shells or phyllo cups with sweet mascarpone cream (recipe below), then arrange on a tray and top with blueberries and halved strawberry slices to create stars and stripes. Mascarpone Cream: Beat an 8-ounce container of mascarpone cheese and 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar with a mixer until smooth. Gently fold in 1/2 cup freshly whipped cream.
