Happy Columbus Day! In fourteen hundred and ninety two Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Do you remember learning that little rhyme in elementary school?  Speaking of elementary school it's also American Touch Tag Day - You're it!  I think playing tag was one of my favorite things to play as a kid. It was the game that never ended - you dodged and ducked from the hand coming towards you never thinking about how long you had been running around. Fun, fun fun!  If you have Columbus Day off get some people together and get a good game of tag going. I didn't do much yesterday - Tom left early morning on his motorcycle for a business trip in Colorado. I took the day off from cleaning and cooking - did laundry, some shopping with Melissa, and relaxed the rest of the day. Today my plan is to clean out the pumpkin I bought and use it as a center piece. I saw this in Southern Living and love the look. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/fall-decorating-i...
Yesterday my husband was on his way home from work on his motorcycle and he slipped on an oil spill while exiting the freeway. I asked if anyone stopped to help him and he said, "No, but the traffic did stop and wait for me to pick up my bike. What's wrong with people? Are we all in that big of a hurry that we can't take a minute out of our day to help someone and check to see if they're okay? Fortunately he ended up with just a few bad cuts and scrapes on his arm and leg. I didn't see him when he left this morning but I'm pretty sure his body is sore today. Yesterday was National Thank You Day and I thank God that he walked away with just a few cuts and scrapes. It could have been much worse. My husband's plan was to come home Sunday, but after talking to the nurse he was torn on what to do. He misses his family and home, but he also wanted to be with his father through the end. We've been together since we were 18 and the longest that we've been apart is when he went to Washington, DC this year for 5 days... we're not very good at living separate lives. It's funny how you have routines that you don't even realize. Such as, him waking up early and putting the dogs out at 5:30. (Who got them on that schedule?) I tried pushing them back to 6:30 but woke up to the gift of poop - You would think they'd appreciate an extra hour of sleep, but no! Also, he has always made me a cup of coffee every morning and put it on my night stand a few minutes before I wake up. I had to motivate myself to brew a pot much less pour myself a cup. I know it's silly little things, but it's our thing. I also found that having a glass a wine in the evening alone ...
