Our Voices

Last week I had told myself to stop writing this blog. "What's the point I asked myself ?" I shared that thought with my good friend Deborah, and what she expressed was the reason I had started sharing my journey in the first place. It's giving hope to someone that is struggling. We never know who we will impact. There are so many people that live chaotic lives feeling like they have no purpose - I was one of them. I thought of what an impact one person sharing their story would have had on me during my darkest days when I felt nothing but hopelessness. Their survival story, or simple words such as, "You're going to make it." would have given meant everything to me. We all have the capability to be effective in significant ways for others. We can turn our "ripples" into a powerful wave that will change the life of an individual, but not while sitting in silence. Our voices can be great tools in helping heal others. People need to hear your...

Moving On

My time at home during my high school years became mainly a place to lie my head at night. I wasn't really involved with whatever nonsense that took place each day - it was school and work for me. My focus had switched to saving as much money as possible to walk out the door at 18. I Turned 18 I left home at 18 with a husband and a daughter. My life was finally going to begin, but my father wasn't a good loser. He would call me on the phone trying hard to break me down with his words, and on occasion would walk back and forth in front of my place of employment trying hard to intimidate me. It wasn't about him missing me or loving me; it was simply because I had broke free, and he had lost control.   The Confrontation Finally one night after work I stopped by my parents home to confront the issue. He flew into a rage shouting that he was going to kill me. I was beyond tired of that same old threat that he screamed at each of us at least once in our lifetime. I...

My Life Journey

My Mother My mother was a quiet and timid woman when my father was around. I'm not sure if her quietness was fueled by submissiveness or fear, but I was always in awe of how in control she was. It didn't matter how horrible the words were that were being spewed at her, she never fought back. Maybe she knew nothing good would come from adding fuel to the fire - we all had witnessed his rants leading to him waving his gun and threatening to shoot. I didn't understand until I was in my mid twenties that his words and gun were his way of controlling each of us. He was a powerless and weak man that never loved himself or freed himself from his guilt and shame. Controlling was all he had, and maybe my mother allowed him to have that. She had more strength than any woman that I have met thus far. I'm not saying her choices were always good, but she had a lot of shit come her way, and not once did I see her crumble. Never did I hear her cry poor me, or ask for anything. Sh...

Where is the Love

This song has been one of my favorites for several years, Lately I can't seem to get it out of my head with all the violence that's going on. Music has always been my escape and my salvation - this song has always spoke truth to me and reminds me that there's still too much suffering in the world that we live in. I think most of  us are working so hard to secure our future that we begin to live our lives in a box, forgetting those that are working hard just to see tomorrow. Sometimes the only thing that reminds us that we're living in a hurting world is something horrific taking place that shakes us a little, and then something sparks inside of us - it either sparks compassion or hate, but either way it's a reminder of the world that we're living in. Life Threw Me Some Lemons

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July weekend! I learned a few new life lessons over the weekend, which is proof that age doesn't allot us the wisdom to handle some of life's storms. I had to acknowledge and accept that some families are just broken, and some people just don't want your help. Some people have an image of you that you didn't know you portrayed, which in turn leaves them to have a misconception of you no matter what growth or changes that you've made in your life. I can't fix what I didn't know was broken, and I can't change the thoughts in the minds of others. Furthermore, I can't force change upon anyone but myself, and that is something I do daily. I don't ever want to become stagnate. Families break up when people take hints you don't intend and miss hints you do intend. Robert Frost I'm a product of a broken screwed up mess of a family, so I never wanted that for my immediate family. But I am not Go...

My Ah-Ha Moment

This inspirational quote was sent to me a few weeks ago. I loved the message so I saved it, but I didn't put too much thought into it until I had an Ah -ha moment after a meditation. It was last week and I was feeling overwhelmed dealing with a family member. I tried having a conversation offering guidance and expressing my concerns, but the response that I received was, "You're not my life coach - I didn't hire you." Okay, fair enough I thought, so I shut myself in my bedroom to do a meditation assignment. I honestly didn't think I would be able to focus, but I needed to create some peace within myself since I don't function well with chaos, and I was hoping for some clarity on this situation. Surprisingly, the meditation allowed me to release all the anxiety that I was feeling; so during that relaxed state I prayed for a message on what to do. Towards the end of the medication you were asked to visualize a huge white canvas and create whatever ...

rEVOLution

There is so much focus today in the world on negativity. Bringing awareness to negative acts can be necessary, however, to keep a focus on negativity doesn't bring a solution. We want to bring and create an uprising of kindness and awareness to individuals who go out of their way to be kind. We want to acknowledge their greatness by sharing a business card we designed that simply thanks them for the kind act we witnessed. People use social media to share all the negativity, we want to share these cards and sow seeds of kindness in the community. Thomas Darwin Murray Obituary: View Thomas Murray's Obituary by Arizona Daily Star

Thomas Darwin Murray Obituary: View Thomas Murray's Obituary by Arizona Daily Star Today I pray for strength and comfort for all of the Murray Family. Tom's mother had an ER visit a few days ago because her her blood pressure was high due to stress.                                                                                                                                                     Today and tomorrow won't be easy for her. Not that it's going to be easy for any of the family, but she spent 56 years of her life being a homemaker and taking care of her husband - which she continued to do through the en...

Love

I mentioned in a previous blog that July is the month that my mother passed away 2 years ago, and that my thoughts would be with her more this month than usual. (you know how memories work) I have been a quote collector for many many years and hadn't put a lot of thought into this quote - it just made sense to me so I liked it, but today when I read it -  it reminded me of my mother since she didn't quite fit the description of what I would have requested for a mother, but she was what I was blessed with and she gave me life. That she didn't have to do - so I'm thankful for the gift of life and I will always love her for that. Once my mom's demons were gone we all were able to experience the real her. It's unfortunate that many years had passed before we really felt love from her, but as a parent I know she did the best that she could with what was going on in her life, and loved us with all she had. In life we have to choose to focus on the positive thi...

I Believe

Here's the second half of I Believe ... I Believe.... That it's taking me a long time  To become the person I want to be.  I Believe.. That you should always leave loved ones with Loving words. It may be the last time you see them. I Believe...  That you can keep going long after you think you can't.  I Believe... That we are responsible for what  We do, no matter how we feel. More to come tomorrow. Happy Friday!

Heaven or Hell

In church today our pastor spoke about Heaven and Hell. He stated that while on earth, we create our Heaven and Hell. I believe that -  Hell is a pain we bring to ourselves, and Heaven is an expansion of greater love. We have control of what we want our life to be. I know people that are constantly complaining and are negative in every aspect of their life. All that does is bring depression, misery and pain - Hell. He went on to say that praying, living and giving plays a big part in our Heaven and Hell. I also agree with that. I pray every day - some days it's all day... praying is important to me. It gives me hope, strength and faith... it empowers me. Living is loving, and loving is life. If you miss love... you miss life. And as for giving, you need to give to receive. I'm not saying it has to be monetary giving. It can be giving of your time, giving someone hope, giving a stranger a smile... just give. This quote reminded me of today's message. This Is Your LIFE  -...

Lover of Valentine's Day

Valentines Day is just around the corner. Personally that's one holiday (if you can call it that) I've never bought into. My feeling is, it's just another overly commercialized day that retailers guilt people to spend money on. I shared that opinion with my 10 year old granddaughter, and her response was, "How can you not like Valentine's Day, it's a day of love." Do you really have to take one day out of 365 of them to show and tell someone that you love and care about them? I don't think so. I pick up random gift items for  the people in my life through out the year, along with putting cards in the mail, or sending a text message when I'm thinking of them. I know it's fun for kids... they get to pick out a cute box of cards for their classmates and decorate boxes to put them in, but truthfully, it gave me anxiety as a kid. I had the stress of creating a beautiful box that would be displayed in the classroom, and then the headache of what ca...
