Get Your Happy

"It is only possible to live happily-ever-after on a day-to-day basis" -Margaret Bonnano I mentioned in my blog last week that there was only one time in my life that I couldn't fake a smile or climb out of the dark hole that I had fallen into. It was one time because from that experience I realized that happiness was something that I had to cultivate on a daily basis. It wasn't possible for me to live years of dysfunction and live happily ever after by walking out the door of my childhood home. I didn't want to keep reflecting on any misfortunes that had occurred in my past. I had come far enough and had acknowledged that stuff happens to everyone. I knew that my experience was nothing in comparison to what others endure. I'm not giving my parents a get out of jail card for situations that should have never happened. I just needed to move past it so I could close all of my open wounds and become a happy being. "The word 'happiness' ...

My Happy

I know that I flew through 18 years of my life in just a few blogs, but you got the picture of what my home life was like. I lived through it and survived it, so I'm not very good today at making it sound as nightmarish as I did when I first started sharing my journey. I'll never deny that it wasn't good for any of us mentally, but I've healed, grown, and moved on. There's no going backwards for me, so hanging on to anger from it isn't my focus. That part of my life challenged me, pushed me, educated me, and made me who I am today - I'm thankful for it! My Epiphany It was in my twenties when I received my epiphany that I needed to work on my attitude about life. I had always told myself that the one thing that I would never be in life was my parents. But, one day as I was yelling about something senseless I knew that I was becoming what I didn't want to be. At that  moment I took ownership of what a shitty person I was. I was cynical, judgmental, a...

I Will Continue

I made a decision last night to get off of Facebook. Lately most everything I come across is negative. I'm well aware that there's some major issues happening in the world that we're living in today, but that isn't why I'm on Facebook. I don't want to see abused people, abused animals, hungry children, or read hateful angry rants because people aren't open minded and try to control the opinions of others. Maybe I'm following the wrong people, but either way, it just wasn't feeding my soul any longer. The time had come for me to eliminate it from my life for awhile. I also made the decision to clean my camp as well. I've worked way too hard on myself to allow people to use me or play emotional games with me. Those that know me well should know that I detach easily and I trust few. I'm what happens when you grow up in a home full of lies, secrets, and broken promises - it teaches you to trust no one, and to walk away with out looking back. A...

You Can't ...

Two things have been bothering me the past couple of days so I'm going to vent. The first is all the Instagram pictures with girls wearing You Can't Sit With Us  t-shirts. Do we not have enough mean girls and bullies in the world that we find the need to have a mean girl t-shirt too. Someone please explain to me the purpose of these shirts because I don't get it, and I don't like them! Second on my list - people that refuse to fix themselves but insist on making everyone around them miserable. Here's my thought. If you want to be unhappy and complain about everything everyday - live alone and don't communicate with anyone. I guess I should rephrase that. Don't communicate with me. I know the old saying misery likes company, but I don't want that kind of company. I can't stand the placing blame on others when they're the ones that are creating all the chaos and negativity. I realize that everyone has unhappy moments, but there's a differe...

Happy Place

I'm always on twitter...today I found Things To Be Happy About while I was on it. I'm happy someone is posting daily things to be happy about - there's always something for us to embrace and be thankful for, and those things should bring us happiness. As for me, before my feet hit the floor in the morning I'm thanking God for blessing me with another day, thankful for friends, family, health, shelter, food - for a body that functions and a mind that works. Being blessed with these things that are often taken for granted create happiness for me.                                                                 I believe everyone has happiness and should find their happy. I personally don't think what makes people happy is based on material items or success. I feel it's your outlook on life, faith, and the quality of your rela...
